SM Foundation Boosts Community Health with Medical Missions Across Metro Manila and Leyte

MANILA, Philippines – Continuing its commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to grassroots communities, SM Foundation (SMFI) successfully conducted a series of medical missions this January 2026, serving over 2,000 beneficiaries across Quezon City and the province of Leyte.

Through its long-running Health and Medical Programs, SM Foundation deployed its mobile clinics and volunteer teams to provide essential medical services, ranging from primary consultations to diagnostic tests, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to vital healthcare.

Spreading Social Good through Local Partnerships

The January leg kicked off in San Vicente, Quezon City, where 289 residents received medical attention. The mission was made possible through a collaboration with the LGU of Quezon City and New Willore Pharma Corp.

The foundation then extended its reach to the Visayas region, conducting three consecutive missions in Leyte:

  • January 27: At SM Center Ormoc, 654 patients were served in partnership with the LGU of Ormoc and the Ormoc City Medical Society.
  • January 28: In San Jose District, Tacloban City, 508 beneficiaries received care through the support of the LGU of Tacloban and the local Health Center.
  • January 29: The series concluded in Brgy. Rizal, Palompon, where 602 residents were reached with the help of the LGU of Palompon and BDO Network Bank.

Beneficiaries across these locations were provided with a variety of free services, including:

  • Medical consultations and dental check-ups
  • Chest X-rays and Electrocardiograms (ECG) via the SM Foundation Mobile Clinic
  • Basic laboratory tests (glucose, uric acid, and cholesterol screening)
  • Free medicines and vitamins under the “Gamot Para sa Kapwa” initiative

“By bringing these missions directly to the communities, we aim to promote preventive healthcare and alleviate the financial burden on families who have limited access to medical facilities,” said Connie Angeles, SM Foundation Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs.

Since its inception, SM Foundation’s medical mission program has served over 1.3 million patients. This initiative runs alongside the foundation’s program of rehabilitating and upgrading public health centers nationwide to help meet PhilHealth accreditation standards.
