Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) underscored its commitment to investing in modern technologies that will improve network visibility and deliver safer, more reliable, and more efficient service to customers.
At Huawei Connect 2026 held on September 17 in Shanghai, China, Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Networks Engr. Froilan J. Savet presented how Advanced Metering Infrastructure using High-Speed Power Line Carrier Communication (AMI-HPLC) can help extend visibility to the low-voltage network.
Using the existing power-line network to support data communication with smart meters, HPLC enables AMI to provide timely information that can support outage detection and restoration verification, energy balancing, system-loss monitoring, and a better understanding of transformer loading and network conditions.
This expanded visibility will also help lay the foundation for Meralco’s future Grid-Edge Operations and Control Center (GEOCC), which will bring together information from across the grid edge to support faster and more informed operational decisions.
With AMI-HPLC and GEOCC, Meralco is preparing its network for the continued growth of rooftop solar, electric vehicles, battery storage, and other emerging technologies, while improving the quality and reliability of service for customers.
