Globe, NHA equip Valenzuela seniors with practical digital skillsthrough Senior Digizen

Globe, through its Senior Digizen program, in partnership with the National Housing Authority (NHA), equipped 65 senior citizens in Disiplina Village, Barangay Bignay, Valenzuela City with practical skills to navigate an increasingly digital world. The hands-on session focused on everyday digital tasks, from communicating with family and managing payments to accessing government services and finding their way around.

Participants learned how to use GlobeOne, GCash, eGovPH and Google Maps, and how to recognize suspicious links, messages, and other potential scams. Globe employees and volunteers from the Globe Pathfinder Internship Program (GPP) provided one-on-one assistance throughout the session, guiding participants as they practiced on their own devices. The approach gave seniors room to learn at their own pace and get help with specific questions or difficulties they encountered.

“Digital inclusion means making sure that the benefits of technology are within reach of every Filipino, including our senior citizens,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer. “Through Senior Digizen, we hope to give them practical skills and greater confidence to connect, transact and access services safely.”

For some participants, the session addressed practical challenges they encounter when using their mobile phones. Cristeta, 70, primarily uses her phone to chat with siblings living in other parts of Metro Manila. She joined the session hoping to better understand GCash and other applications on her device.

Evangeline, 71, meanwhile, was already familiar with calls, Facebook, and Messenger but relied on younger relatives for other digital tasks. She said the session helped her learn to navigate GCash, GlobeOne and eGovPH and reinforced lessons on protecting herself from suspicious links and scams.

Senior Digizen forms part of Globe’s broader efforts to make technology more accessible and useful across generations. By working with communities and partners such as the NHA, Globe aims to help more Filipinos develop practical skills they can use in their everyday lives.
