Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has deployed the Philippines’ first 34.5-kilovolt (kV) mobile switchgear, an innovative solution designed to supports substation upgrades and helps maintain reliable electricity service.
The portable, trailer-mounted 34.5 kV switchgear is equipped with one bus-tie, three feeder breakers, and protective equipment. Designed for deployment at different locations, it gives Meralco greater operational flexibility during emergencies and planned equipment replacements, allowing the company to carry out critical upgrades while maintaining power service to customers.
The mobile switchgear is currently deployed at Sun Valley Substation in Parañaque City, where it temporarily serves three feeders during the replacement of the existing 34.5-kV GIS No. 1, helping sustain power service to key customers in nearby areas.
“Our priority is to maintain reliable power service to our customers, even as we upgrade and modernize our facilities. With this mobile switchgear, we can carry out critical equipment replacements while minimizing service disruptions. More importantly, we can deploy it to other locations where it is needed, allowing more customers to benefit from this investment,” said Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Networks Engr. Froilan J. Savet.
Meralco remains committed to investing in innovative solutions that strengthen network reliability and ensure reliable electricity service for its customers as it continues to modernize its distribution system.
