MERALCO PARTNERS WITH UPEEP TO ADVANCE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING PROFESSION

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 15 JULY 2026—Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has strengthened its commitment to promote professional and technical excellence in the field of electrical engineering through a partnership with the United Professional Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (UPEEP).

The agreement, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, establishes collaboration between Meralco and UPEEP to enhance the professional knowledge and competencies of electrical engineers through capability-building programs, technical research, and innovation. The collaboration also aims to provide engineering support in strengthening industry standards for solar and battery installations and to build technical competencies in nuclear energy.

The signing was led by Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Distribution Utility Subsidiaries and Strategic Partnerships Ferdinand O. Geluz, UPEEP National President Jovenie F. Tagatac, and UPEEP National Vice President for External Affairs Mark Anjelo U. Estrada.

As part of the collaboration, Meralco and UPEEP will jointly conduct technical training programs, collaborate on advanced research, establish knowledge-sharing platforms, and develop strategies aligned with the national roadmap for energy efficiency and sustainability.

“For UPEEP, joining hands with Meralco is a dynamic alliance. Through this MOU, we are successfully blending high-level institutional capability with the hands-on expertise of our professional electrical engineers,” UPEEP National President Tagatac said.

As an advocate of professional excellence and an active partner of the government in nation-building, Meralco continues to advance energy industry innovation in support of the country’s sustainable energy goals.

“At Meralco, we firmly believe that the future of our industry will be shaped not only by technology, but by the capabilities of our people. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to advancing the electrical engineering profession, strengthening technical excellence, and contributing to a safer, more innovative, and future-ready energy sector for the Philippines,” Meralco COO Aperocho said.
